Committee Chair: Maddy Weingast

Saxon Scope: How is your committee contributing to Case Day as a whole? What are your responsibilities?

Maddy Weingast: Media Committee is responsible for contacting all the local papers in hopes to raise awareness and get coverage for Case Day. Also, we advertise within in the school via the Saxon Scope, morning announcements, and posters/flyers. All in all it is our job to make sure that everyone at Langley as well as its larger local community is aware of Case Day and its purpose.

SS: What has the media committee done so far in preparation for Case Day?

MW: So far our committee has contacted local papers and news stations like McLean Patch, Great Falls Connection, Channel 8 News, etc. regarding Case Day. We've also tried establishing contacts with media outlets in Arizona where the case is directly effecting people. At this point we are waiting for most of their responses. Also we've designed fliers that have been hung around in school, and we're in the process of making posters. We've also ensured that announcements regarding Case Day are being made all this week.

SS: What excites you most about Case Day this year?

MW: I think the fact that the case revolves around voter identification is very exciting, because voter fraud is an increasingly prevalent problem within the US. This year was the first time I had a chance to vote in a presidential election so it's interesting to use that experience in my interpretation of the case. I'm really excited to see that case acted out within our class, and the different arguments both sides will present.

SS: What is your personal opinion on the Arizona v. Inter Tribal Council case?
MW:
To be honest I have not been involved in as extensive research regarding the case as our student justices and lawyers have so I'm more split down the middle concerning my personal opinion of the case. On one hand I think given the increase in voter fraud, proof of citizenship and other techniques seem quite logical, but on the other hand it may be a burden.
